Celebration of Life Celebrant in Warwickshire

Some goodbyes need more time, more voices and more room to laugh. I’m Rosie Sayers, an independent celebrant based in Royal Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, and I lead warm, personal celebrations of life across Warwickshire and the Midlands. From £300.

What it is

A gathering built around a person, not a formality

A celebration of life is a chance to remember someone as they really were. It can happen after a funeral, or instead of one. It can be big or small, solemn or joyful, structured or loose. The only rule is that it fits the person and the people left behind.

My role is to hold the shape of it: help you choose the place, the music, the readings and the voices; write the links and tributes; and lead the event so everyone feels welcome and the stories land properly.

How it differs from a funeral

Same care, different timing and tone

Timing

A funeral usually happens within days of a death. A celebration of life can be weeks or months later, when people have more breath and more stories to share.

Place

Pubs, village halls, gardens, hotels, woodland, a family home - anywhere that feels right. No licence needed; just a space that suits the person.

Tone

Often lighter, more social and more open. There may be food, music, photographs and shared memories alongside reflection.

Read about funeral ceremonies if you are also considering a more formal service first.

Where and when

Where it can be held, and how long it lasts

  • Any meaningful venue

Village halls, pubs, hotels, gardens, woodland, a family home, a cricket club, a boat - if it mattered to them, it works.

  • Flexible timing

Afternoon, evening, a Sunday, a year after the funeral - there is no fixed window. Choose the moment that suits the family.

  • Length that fits

From forty minutes to a couple of hours. We shape it around how many people want to speak and what kind of event it is.

What can be included

Music, readings, memories and contributions

Everything is optional, and everything is chosen for a reason.

  • Music that matters

Songs that were theirs, live musicians, a playlist, silence - whatever carries the mood. I help place each piece where it belongs.

  • Readings and words

Poems, lyrics, letters, prayers or words written by the family. Chosen because they mean something, not because they sound ceremonial.

  • Storytelling

I bring the story of a life through the event, with honesty, warmth and room for the difficult bits as well as the joyful ones.

  • Contributions from everyone

Open mic moments, memory cards, photographs on tables, a toast - however people want to take part. I make it feel natural, not awkward.

Larger shared events

Hosting bigger gatherings

Celebrations of life often bring together people who have not seen each other in years, across generations and different branches of a life. A larger event needs a host who can make everyone feel included, keep the energy steady, and move between reflection and laughter without it feeling forced.

I'm at ease leading a larger gathering. I can welcome everyone, introduce speakers, carry the stories, and move the day gently between reflection and laughter, without it ever feeling like a performance.

Whether it is sixty people in a pub function room or two hundred in a hotel, the same principle applies: the event should feel like the person, and everyone should leave feeling they were part of a proper goodbye.

The process

How a celebration of life comes together

There is no pressure and no rush. Just a clear path from first idea to the day itself.

  1. 01

    Enquiry

A phone call, email or message is enough. Tell me the person, the rough date and what you are imagining. I will check availability and explain what happens next.

  2. 02

    Planning the shape

We talk about the person, the place, the tone and the people. Quiet reflection, lively stories, music, food - whatever fits. We decide what to include and what to leave out.

  3. 03

    Gathering voices

I help family and friends prepare what they want to say, and I gather the stories, photographs and music that will thread through the event.

  4. 04

    Writing and reviewing

I write the running order, the links and any tributes, and share them with you. You can change anything until it feels right.

  5. 05

    The gathering

I arrive early, settle everyone, and lead the celebration with warmth and a light hand so the family can be present and the stories can land properly.

Celebration of life FAQs

Questions people ask

What is a celebration of life?

It is a gathering to remember someone and celebrate who they were. It can follow a funeral, or stand in its place. There is no fixed format: it might be stories, music, readings, photographs, food and drink, or simply people being together in a place that mattered to the person.

How is it different from a funeral?

A funeral tends to be the formal service at a crematorium, church or burial ground, often within days of a death. A celebration of life can happen days, weeks or months later, in a pub, village hall, garden, hotel or anywhere that feels right. It is usually less formal, with more time for voices, laughter and shared memory.

Where can a celebration of life be held?

Almost anywhere. Pubs, village halls, hotels, gardens, woodland, a family home, a boat, a cricket club - the only requirement is that it feels like the person. I am based in Royal Leamington Spa and travel across Warwickshire, Coventry, Stratford-upon-Avon and the wider Midlands.

How long does it last, and when can it happen?

Usually between forty minutes and a couple of hours, depending on how many people want to speak and how the event is shaped. It can happen soon after a funeral, or months later when people are ready. There is no rush.

What can be included?

Music, readings, photographs, tributes from family and friends, shared memories, a toast, silence, candles, favourite food or drink - whatever reflects the life. I help you choose and place each element so the event has shape without feeling staged.

How much does a celebration of life cost?

My celebrations of life start from £300. That includes the planning conversations, writing and shaping the event, help choosing readings and music, and leading the gathering on the day. Full details are on the fees page.
